Baiting

It’s a use of attractive food matrices combined with toxicants designed to kill target species after feeding on the bait.

The goal of baiting is to control pests by placing an attractive, highly palatable food matrix combined with insecticide in locations where targeted pests will feed.

Some insects utilize social food sparing which aids in the transfer of the bait throughout the entire colony i. e. ant workers help the PCO’s by carrying the „toxicant” directly to the nest. As bait is consumed, the toxicant has a detrimental effect on pests.

Baiting is perceived as less hazardous than other pesticide formulations. Some of bait attractants are insect specific and pose little threat to non-target organisms.
